So, it’s the end of January.  How are people doing on their resolutions to be healthy, to eat healthier and exercise more?  It’s hard, isn’t it?

In the service of honesty, I’ll have to admit that I’m struggling as well.  Please refer to previous January post on this topic.  I’ve been able to cut down on my portion size and so I am consuming less calories.  I’ve been less successful with food choices, still opting to have desserts a couple of times a week though I’m only eating half portions.  The scale has only shown minimal weight loss but that’s OK.  I’m still working on it.  My activity level still needs to increase by quite a bit.  Once that increases, I know that body fat % count will go down!

So, I thought I’d just put together some resources for others who may be going through the same thing.  Just a few of my favorite sites for good, dependable, accurate information:

Go to www.familydoctor.org for some basic information on what it takes to lose weight, diet, nutrition, and exercise recommendations.

Go to www.webmd.com for some great tools including BMI calculators, calorie counters, specific nutritional facts, diet fad facts, and much more.

Go to www.diabetes.org for some healthy recipes and exercise tips.  Even though I’m not diabetic, it’s great nutrition!

Prefer the in person approach? Go see your doctor. Ask your doctor for advice, recommendations and even a referral to a nutritionist if you want.  Get information about your BMI, blood pressure, blood sugars, cholesterol if relevant.  Have a plan to recheck these statistics after a period of implementing your “get healthy” strategies.

There are also a lot of online communities where you can get support in your efforts to get healthy.  Bottom line?  You figure out whatever it is that helps you to keep plugging away to becoming a healthier you–and you do that thing.  Look at it this way, even if you only lose about 1-2 lbs. every month, by the end of the year you will have lost 12-24 lbs.  That’s pretty good–especially since we are talking about doing things that will also keep the weight off!

Good eating and exercising, folks!
