Erectile dysfunction or ED occurs when a man in unable to obtain an erection or maintain an erection.  It is also called impotence.  It usually occurs in older men (over 65) but can happen to younger men as well.  Although not a life threatening condition, it can be very distressing for most men.

Various things can cause ED.  High blood sugars or high blood pressure are conditions that can cause ED.  However, there are also factors such as hormonal imbalance, alcohol, smoking, drug abuse, medication side effects, and relationship issues that may cause ED.  There are many other possible causes that you can review with your doctor if you have specific concerns.

After you talk to your doctor, he will decide what tests should be ordered and inform you of treatment options.  These may include relationship therapy, oral medications, injection medications or vacuum pump devices and rarely, surgery.  TV commercials are abundant and continually inform us of the medications that are available for ED (i.e. Viagra, Cialis, Levitra).  If you are interested in any of these options, you can talk to your doctor about getting a prescription.  I am told that you can get many of these medications without a prescription online or across the border.  However, I do not recommend this and would advise getting the prescription from a doctor.
